With summer around the corner, plans with friends will arise at the drop of a hat. You don’t want to be caught ill-prepared which is where the ‘wardrobe on the go’ steps in! Haven’t heard of one before? Allow me to share my favourite fashion hack.
What’s the problem?
I live a distance away from my friends who are based in and around the heart of CBD and let’s be honest, that’s where the vibe is. Since it’s event season as well, most of my work events take place in the central side of Cape Town and sometimes these require a bit more than a splash of mascara to be ready. I need a whole wardrobe change!
Sometimes it’s not even a raucous night out on the cards, but a simple WhatApp ‘comes through’ about wanting to take an impromptu dip in the ocean, having a sunset beach picnic or hiking up Kloof Corner. I don’t want to be rushing home from work, sitting in traffic to get home only to drive all the way back to the meeting location again and end up being late. Not to mention, we all know how expensive petrol is.
If you’re travelling this December, or even preparing to live it up wherever you may be, I highly recommend a wardrobe on the go so that you 1. Can choose outfits faster and 2. Don’t have to waste time rushing to get changed.
The solution
I’ve created a wardrobe on the go–a small bag of wardrobe essentials that I would need to see an after-work plan through.
What to include
My on-the-go wardrobe consists of the following:
- A bathing costume –Having my swimming costume in my car saves me a trip home. I also have a towel and a change of underwear.
- A jacket – Nights can still get a bit chilly so have a jacket in the car. in my case, I’ll have 2-3 options so that I have the perfect one to match my outfit.
- A gym outfit and trainers – I simply love doing a quick hike or a sunset promenade walk so these are essential.
- A pair of heels – Heels will elevate any day look into a chic night look – perfect for event season that doesn’t need a completely new glam outfit and full face beat.
- Although not wardrobe related, I always keep my emergency make-up kit in the car as well for any small touch-ups needed.
The basic ‘wardrobe on the go’ bag stays in the car with obvious changes for washing but the concept remains.
