The Golden Globes Red Carpet – Or Black Carpet?

This year’s Golden Globes Red Carpet – or should we say black carpet – was more than just a showcase of the latest styles and evening wear trends.

Most stars chose to wear black as part of a show of solidarity with the Times Up movement.

The movement was started as a response to the rampant sexual harassment uncovered in Hollywood, following allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

This is not to say that the movement is only aimed at the rich and famous. It’s website states:

“TIME’S UP is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere. From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live.” [sic]

Some stars even chose to bring women’s rights activists along, with Michelle Williams arriving on the arm of founder of the #MeToo initiative, Tarana Burke.

During the ceremony, Oprah Winfrey gave a powerful acceptance speech highlighting the plight of those who have been victimised after receiving the Cecil B. Demille award for her contributions to the entertainment world.

“What I know for sure, is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” she said in the goose-bump inducing speech. Watch it below:

Sadly not everyone wore black to the event, however those who did looked as glamorous as they would have in the colours of their choice – proof that you can’t go wrong with a classic LBD!

Here are some of our favourites:
