Feeling tired and bloated after the festive season? Boost your energy levels in 2019 and flatten your tum with a raw diet Monday!
Wellbeing experts swear by a raw diet Monday. Why? The benefits of a raw food diet, rich in fresh fruit and veggies is a given. Just a quick look at Alicia Silverstone, Miranda Kerr and Demi Moore underlines the point.
An entirely raw lifestyle isn’t everyone’s bag, but a raw diet Monday makes a fantastic intro, kick-starting your week by de-puffing your body, revving energy and slashing kilojoules.
Nutritionist Christina Agnew has a beautiful little raw diet Monday menu we can all try. “It’s so easy and it’s high in nutrients, so you’ll feel more satisfied and energised,” she says.
Start with some fruit and fresh juice, ideally green with ingredients such as watercress, spinach, kale, fennel, apple and lime – a superb shot of nutrients.
Tackle the 11am munchies and snack on a handful of pumpkin and sunflower seeds, mixed with raisins and more exotic goji berries.
Create a big colourful salad with lots of veggies, slices of avocado, olives and pine nuts, and a cold-pressed olive oil as a dressing. This is easy to take to work too.
When the 4pm chocolate craving hits, try Soaring Free Superfoods Organic Cacao Nibs, R144 for 200g. They’re a healthy, tasty alternative to sugary chocolate and are high in antioxidants. Watch your portions though, you don’t want to go eating the whole bag!
Have a big smoothie, it’s surprisingly filling. Blend one banana, a cup of berries, a handful of spinach, and cashew nuts, a few ice cubes and water to your own consistency. If you’re really hungry, add more veggies.
Top tip: You can also eat flaxseeds during the day. They give you a blast of omega-3s and help dieters feel satisfied. Pop into a clean pepper grinder and twist onto salads, soups or smoothies. Simple!
