Crochet – the fashion trend that will be seen everywhere this season

If I hear the word ‘crochet,’ it sparks a childhood memory with my granny who would create crocheted ornaments pieces for the house. This season, the word crochet is everywhere, taking on a different meaning to my granny’s decorations.

Hop onto the revived trend in fashion – ‘wearable crochet.‘

Temperature friendly

With the temperatures increasing daily, that summer feeling in the air means winter jackets can slowly but surely be packed away and the lighter, airy material wardrobe pieces can start making their comeback appearance.

During the warmer months, most want to wear as little as possible. We’ll spend a lot of time in swimwear naturally, but because the temperatures become unbearable, finding comfort in fabrics to wear over our swimwear can be challenging.

The struggle is over! The crochet trend has been proven to be hit on the spring/summer runway and are starting to trickle into our fashion clothing stores. The spotlight is on them to soon infiltrate the sidewalks and beaches nationwide.

Eco-friendly

There’s been an increased demand for eco-friendly and handcrafted fashion so it’s no surprise that crochet is among the most sought-after trends this season.

Fashion has brought inspirations from many decades this year and its made the mark on this trend again! Taking inspiration from the 70s, textures like crochet and knits are back in style. This summer is all about easy-to-wear, comfortable and effortless style. Linens will always be a chic element to your spring/summer wardrobe but the crochet trend falls right in line with that effortless aesthetic.

How to style crochet

When I think of wearable crochet pieces, I picture myself exploring a tropical island, a coconut filled with a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) in hand and wearing a stunning crochet dress over my bathing suit.

The crochet trend ranges across all spheres in fashion – from dresses and tops to shoes and accessories. There is something in this trend for everyone to be a part of. It’s uniquely stylish yet still easy, breezy, and attainable.
This trend might seem intimidating, especially if you are a tad bit shy to expose a lot of skin. If you’re not ready to go all-in on this funky and colorful 70s take on fashion, you can start with a simple crochet top or swimwear cover-up in a gorgeous neutral hue, perfect for poolside or a trip to the beach.
The see-through look that a crochet piece gives is a bit more daring but very flattering. You have the decision to wear something underneath or not. Layering a slip dress or body suit could still give you the tends effects.

Personally I am loving a crochet on crochet, street style yet chic look. Wearing a full crochet dress as a daytime look with sneakers might just be my go-to. It’s effortless, laid-back but so stylish.

One can add hints of the trend as well by wearing a crochet vest over a crisp white shirt or pairing a plain white t-shirt with crochet pants and a classic oversized blazer draped over the shoulders. Even incorporating crochet accessories will have you feeling a part for the trend in a subtle way.

Don’t be afraid of this trend. You can playground with colours or you can keep it simple with natural tones. You can keep it simple or dive head first into the trend and make it work for you and your style.
