Springbok star Edwill van der Merwe has become a father for the first time.
The winger and his wife, Nadine, recently welcomed a baby boy, whom they have named Luka.
Sharing the news on Instagram over the weekend, Van der Merwe posted a series of photos showing himself cradling his newborn son, along with the family’s first portrait as a trio. He also offered fans a glimpse of Luka’s nursery.
“New parents on the block,” he captioned the post.

Van der Merwe joins a growing list of Springboks who have expanded their families in 2025.
Last week, scrumhalf Faf de Klerk announced the birth of his son, Yuke. De Klerk and his wife, Miné, also share a daughter, Remi-Ré, who was born in February 2024.

Earlier this year, fellow Boks Handré Pollard and Eben Etzebeth also welcomed daughters born just days apart. Pollard and his wife, Marise, named their baby girl Isabella Tanya, while Etzebeth and his wife, Anlia, welcomed their second daughter, Lia.
With Van der Merwe now adding baby Luka to the mix, it’s been another memorable “baby boom” year for the Springbok squad off the field.
