Some people get proposed to at a candlelit restaurant. Others at a beach at sunset. And then there is actress Daniah de Villiers, who thought she was heading out for an anniversary hike in the Western Cape and ended up starring in her own real-life romcom.
De Villiers, best known for her role in “Die Kantoor”, recently shared the moment she got engaged to her partner Joshua Farrer, and the details are exactly as warm and chaotic as a good proposal story should be.
The hike that changed everything
According to Farrer, pulling off the surprise was not without its challenges. There were close calls, and the Western Cape weather, as any Cape Town native will recognise, did what it does best: delivered grey skies on a significant occasion. Thankfully, everything came together.
The couple hiked to a scenic picnic spot to celebrate their anniversary. De Villiers had no idea that a ring was waiting at the end of the trail. In a detail that makes the whole thing even sweeter, the pair had packed formal clothes and changed into them on the mountain because, as Farrer explained, it was still a date. Picture it: mountain views, wind in her hair, a beautiful picnic setup, and a man doing his very best to keep a life-changing secret.
When the moment arrived, she said yes. The actress, who has also charmed audiences in productions including ‘Mia and the White Lion’, looked, by all accounts, completely overwhelmed with joy.
The love story, in brief
Not every engagement needs helicopters and fireworks. Sometimes all it takes is a mountain, a picnic, someone brave enough to carry a ring up a hiking trail without giving the game away, and the good sense to bring a change of clothes. De Villiers and Farrer have not yet announced further wedding plans, but judging by the spirit in which the proposal was pulled off, whenever it happens, it will be worth watching.
