Mia le Roux, the beauty queen who made history as South Africa’s first deaf and first differently-abled Miss SA winner in 2024, is getting married. On 4 June, she took to Instagram to share the date she and fiancé Luke Ten Oever will exchange vows: 16 October 2026.

“16.10.2026. The day we say ‘I DO’,” she wrote, alongside a clip that has since been widely shared and celebrated.
The relationship
Mia and Luke have been together since 2023. The pair announced their engagement on 8 July 2025, though they had in fact been engaged for some time before going public. Their explanation for the delay was entirely in keeping with who Mia is: deliberate, unhurried, unwilling to share a moment before it belongs fully to them.
“We have been engaged for a while now and mutually agreed that we just want to enjoy our little bubble,” she wrote at the time of the engagement announcement. “This one moment that just belonged to us for a little while. And now we are ready to share our joy with the world.”
Her tribute to Luke in that announcement was equally considered: “The immense love, patience and sacrifice you have shown me this year has been nothing short of incredible. From the way you hold space for me with calm and steadiness in life’s tough moments, to the way we lose ourselves in laughter over the silliest things. My heart will choose you over and over again.”
Who is Mia le Roux?
Mia le Roux grew up in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape and trained as a speech-language and hearing therapist. She is currently completing a master’s degree specialising in autism, which sits alongside her advocacy work around disability, empowerment and representation.
She entered and won Miss SA 2024 as the first deaf contestant to do so, carrying cochlear implant technology throughout the competition and changing the narrative around what beauty pageants can and should look like. Her platform has extended well beyond the crown: she speaks, writes, trains and uses her reach to challenge the narrow definitions of ability and worth that still circulate in South African public life.
The October wedding is the next chapter in a story that has consistently been worth following. We wish her and Luke every happiness.
