Sound bathing may be a term that is completely foreign to some, especially if you’re not a hashtag chakra hun, in tune and in touch with balancing energy points.
Sound bathing can be used as a form of meditation. It is based on the understanding that specific tones and frequencies are connected to certain energy points or chakras, the same way colours and crystals are.
Sound healing has become increasingly popular as more people seek out alternative, non-intrusive ways to heal the body and mind.
Here’s what sound bathing is and how you can use sound frequencies to heal your body.
What is sound bathing?
Sound bathing is an immersive, deep sound experience, intended to heal the body and mind.
Many people use singing bowls like Tibetan singing bowls or quartz crystal singing bowls with a mallet.
You can get a brass Tibetan singing bowl at Hello Indigo Halo.
As different sound frequencies are connected to different energy centres located in the body, sound bathing can reset and unblock certain energy centres.
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the concept of qi reiterates the point that energy flows through the body and that sometimes there is an imbalance, resulting in physical ailments, which sound bathing can help to balance.
Sound frequencies for different energy centres
Frequency: 396 Hz – Root chakra
The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with feelings of safety and security.
If you have lower back pain or suffer from anxiety a sound bath using the 396 Hz frequency can be incredibly useful.
Frequency: 417 Hz – Sacral chakra
The sacral chakra is located below the belly button and is connected to sexual energy and pleasure, as well as creativity.
If you suffer from excessive or even a lack of sexual desire, mood swings or depression, or addiction, your sacral chakra might need some love.
Frequency: 528 Hz – Solar plexus chakra
The solar plexus chakra is located above the belly button and is connected to the adrenal glands and lungs. It is also linked to the fight-or-flight response, personal power, confidence and decision-making.
If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, over-eating, excessive weight gain or diabetes, the 528 Hz frequency could be beneficial to you.
Frequency: 639 Hz – Heart chakra
The heart chakra is located at – you guessed it – at the heart centre. Usually, that’s in the middle of your chest.
The heart chakra is linked to love, but not romantic love exclusively. This energy centre has a lot to do with self-love, compassion and forgiveness. The 639 Hz frequency is great for dealing with past trauma.
Frequency: 741 Hz – Throat chakra
The throat chakra is responsible for communication – how we communicate our needs and our ability to speak up for ourselves.
If you have thyroid issues, a constant, unexplainable sore throat or even ear issues, the throat chakra will benefit from a 741 Hz sound bath.
Frequency: 144 Hz – Third-eye chakra
The third-eye chakra is situated between the brows and if you have eye issues, migraines or constant headaches, the third-eye chakra might be tugging at you for your attention.
The third-eye chakra, if in balance, helps us see clearly, physically and intuitively. It is great to focus on this energy centre when you want to awaken your intuition and connect deeply to your higher power.
Frequency: 963 Hz – Crown chakra
The crown chakra is located at the crown of the head and is linked to the highest states of consciousness.
Sound bathing with the 963 Hz frequency can promote feelings of peace and bliss.
