Maybe we have the ‘minimalism’ trend to thank for it, but more women are paring back their beauty routines in favour for a simpler approach. We want to look fresh, radiant and polished but we don’t want to spend hours achieving the look. It’s not too much to ask for. In fact, these are the low-maintenance beauty routines women are embracing.

Beauty routines are getting less and less complicated – thank goodness. Instead of spending hours layering skincare products, perfecting make-up and maintaining a long list of treatments, more women want a simpler approach but still feel easily polished.
It’s not abandoning beauty. It is, however, being a lot more selective about what actually works.
Streamlining skincare
More products don’t necessarily mean better skincare, so a 10-step routine isn’t always the answer. Build a streamlined routine around a gentler cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen to provide a solid foundation. Then add targeted products when you actually need it.
The focus is also shifting towards consistency. Using a few products consistently is better than buying multiple products that eventually end up untouched in your bathroom.
Make-up that looks like you
Heavy and full-coverage make-up is making way for products that enhance your natural skin instead of covering it up. Tinted moisturisers, lightweight foundations, cream blushes and tinted lip balms create a polished look without the complication.
When you’re short of time, multi-use products are excellent. You can dab a cream blush on your lips as well – it’s about fewer products to carry and fewer decisions to make.
Embracing natural texture
Low-maintenance beauty is about working with what you have. We’re in a wonderful time where women are embracing their natural features like grey hair, textured hair, freckles and skin texture – they’re feeling less pressured to create that perfectly uniform look.
Of course it doesn’t mean giving up grooming ourselves. It could simply mean choosing a haircut that grows out gracefully, allowing natural curls to shine or finding a hairstyle that doesn’t take constant heat styling.
Fewer appointments, more intention
It’s incredibly liberating to reduce the number of beauty appointments you feel you need to maintain. Many women are doing occasional appointments that make a noticeable difference and letting the rest go.
The bottomline
Remember that low-maintenance beauty is not about doing nothing at all. It’s more about doing less but doing it well. In a time when women are busy with responsibilities but still want to enjoy beauty, it’s always a good idea to have a routine that saves time, reduces clutter and still allows you to feel put together and cared for.
