Nothing says ‘celebration’ like a little champagne toast. But we can do better than a mimosa, right? A crisp glass of bubbly is always welcome, but to impress your guests, why not transform your sparkling wine into handcrafted cocktails to instantly elevate your gathering. Try these elegant champagne drinks – they’re minimal effort, plus you can make them non-alcoholic if you wish.
1. The Classic French 75
The French 75 is wonderfully crisp, citrusy and timeless. It combines gin (30ml), fresh lemon juice (15ml), simple syrup (15ml) and chilled Cap Classique (50ml). Fill a shaker with ice cubes, add the gin, lemon juice, and syrup, and shake until well chilled. Strain into a flute, top with MCC and garnish with a lemon spiral.
2. The Grand Champagne Cocktail
If you’re in the mood for some vintage glamour, serve the traditional champagne cocktail. Place a single sugar cube at the bottom of a flute, dash it with Angostura bitters, add a dash of Cognac and top with a dry Cap Classique. As the cube dissolves, it creates a continuous ribbon of lovely bubbles and it infuses the drink with spicy notes.
3. Peach-Vanilla Bellini
A Bellini is always a winner. Blend peaches and vanilla extract in a blender until completely smooth. Spoon 1 or 2 tablespoons of the puree in a champagne flute. Top up with chilled Cap Classique or Prosecco, stir gently and garnish with a peach slice or mint sprig.
4. Kir Royale
This drink is incredibly simple to make. Pour 15ml of berry liqueur and 150ml of chilled Cap Classique into a flute. Add a fresh berry or even a maraschino cherry as garnish, or if you like a citrus peel. The beautiful colour of this cocktail alone makes it a winner.
5. Elderflower Champagne Cocktail
Another easy one, this pretty floral drink is deliciously refreshing. Pour 30ml of elderflower liqueur or cordial in a flute, and top with 90ml of dry sparkling wine. As a final touch, garnish with a lemon peel strip or edible flowers.
The bottom line
As the host, keep your glassware and sparkling wine chilled and make sure you have quality ingredients. Remember, for all the cocktails you can swap the Cap Classique for non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Pay extra attention to presentation, and you will certainly ensure your guests feel pampered.
