WATCH: Coldplay Perform Tribute To Tom Petty Following His Death

Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer died on Monday following a heart attack.

His manager Tom Dimitriades released the following statement on social media:

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”

Petty had a music career which spanned over 4 decades, and brought his fans numerous much-loved radio hits alongside his band, The Hearbreakers. He also had various solo hits.

On the night of his death, Coldplay, who were performing in Portland at the time, observed a minute of silence before performing this touching rendition of Petty’s hit Free Fallin’ with R.E.M’s Peter Buck.
