Autumn is finally here, and when it comes to interiors, it’s the perfect time to embrace this transitional feeling – and use it as a time to reset, refresh, and prepare your abode for the cooler months.
With the shift in season, often trends tend to change, it’s not just our wardrobes that need adjusting and updating, interiors also deserve a spruce up during the winter season, after all that’s where we’ll be spending most of our time.
Here’s some interior trends on how to embrace and create a chic and cosy haven for the winter season.
Colour
Autumn colours are usually more muted and earthy, however we are seeing a shift, reminiscing the 60’s and 70’s with bold colours and patterns. Greens – in all shades are popular this season, continuing to bring the outdoors in. This season, more muted green tones seems to be the ‘it’ colour. This can also be introduced by artwork, accessories and soft furnishings.
Texture
Autumn is a time for layering, embracing texture is the way to go this season. You can layer many different textures together such a velvet, wool, cashmere and flannel. By adding these textures, you will create an inviting and cosy space where you’ll want to spend all your time.
Patterns
Patterns are back this season. We are seeing patterns being embraced, but be careful of not to mix big bold prints on all wall and fabrics. Patterns can be incorporated by mixing a bold pattern wallpaper with a wood or stone that has a shape or form of herringbone or chevron.
Natural element
Not only are we seeing paint colours softer and warmer, but more natural elements too. Warm, medium, wood tones are already popular in flooring, but we should see more lightly stained wood oak furniture and décor in the coming year.
Bringing the outside in
Now’s the time to embrace cosy, bringing greenery into your home with beautiful vases and bright blooms, pretty branches, urns or vessels. This is one way of feeling cosy, as the light fades, having pretty muted lighting can really help create an atmosphere, so use table and floor lamps and candles to create a cosy scene.
