Verushka Singh, who made history in November 2025 as the first Indian South African woman to be crowned Mrs South Africa, has stepped down from the title just four months after her win. The Mrs South Africa organisation confirmed the resignation on Wednesday, stating that Singh chose to step back in order to focus on personal priorities and her family.
Singh won the crown at Emperors Palace on 15 November 2025. Outside of pageantry, she works as a chemical engineer and climate consultant — a professional profile that speaks to a woman who has always operated across multiple demanding spheres simultaneously.
Her words on leaving
In a statement, Singh was clear that the decision was entirely her own and was made without any ambivalence about the organisation or its mission. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on this platform and for the incredible women I have had the privilege of standing alongside,” she said. “This decision is entirely my own, made with my family’s needs at heart, and I step away with nothing but appreciation for Mrs South Africa and what it stands for.”
Organisation CEO Joani Jacobs praised Singh’s tenure, describing her as having carried the title with dedication and professionalism throughout her time on the platform.
First Princess steps up
In keeping with the organisation’s succession protocol, First Princess Carika Bebb assumes the duties and responsibilities of Mrs South Africa 2026 with immediate effect. Bebb described taking on the role as an honour and indicated she intends to represent the platform with purpose and make a meaningful difference through the causes close to her heart.
All scheduled events and programmes will continue as planned. The organisation remains focused on its broader mission of developing women of influence and impact across South Africa.
