The two-city tour is part of their global celebration of Automatic, their fourth studio album. Known for their distinctive mix of alternative rock, Americana and heartfelt storytelling, the band has built a loyal following with chart-topping hits such as Ho Hey and Ophelia. This will be their second time performing in South Africa, following their sold-out Brightside World Tour dates in 2022.
A career built on storytelling and connection
Founded in 2005 by lead vocalist and guitarist Wesley Schultz and drummer Jeremiah Fraites, The Lumineers have grown into one of the most celebrated folk acts of their generation. Over the years, they have achieved 24 number one hits across various radio formats, amassed over six billion streams and sold millions of albums worldwide. Their music has resonated with audiences around the globe, earning them a dedicated 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a social media reach of 6.5 million.
Their latest album Automatic features 16 tracks, including the title song, Strings and Same Old Song, which recently topped Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart. The duo has also collaborated with artists such as P!nk, James Bay and Zach Bryan, proving their versatility while maintaining their distinct sound.
Evolving sound, unwavering ethos
Reflecting on the new album, Fraites hinted that fans can expect some surprises. “People who think they have our number will be surprised,” he said, while Schultz described the creative process as “feeling our way through the dark.” Despite experimenting with new sonic landscapes, they remain proud of writing all their own material, calling it a rare achievement in today’s music industry.
Beyond their musical success, The Lumineers are known for their philanthropic work. They have long supported environmental causes, human rights initiatives, music education and youth mental health. During the pandemic, they launched the Colorado Gives Back benefit, raising funds for live music and service industry workers impacted by Covid-19.
When to get tickets
Tickets for both shows go on sale at 9am on Friday 15 August via Ticketmaster. With their last South African tour selling out quickly, fans are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
