Stand-out moments from King Charles III’s coronation in pictures

On Saturday, King Charles III and consort Queen Camilla were crowned as King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and other Commonwealth realms.

Thousands flocked to Westminster Abbey grounds on Saturday, in rainy weather, to witness the coronation proceedings. Here’s a few of the stand-out moments from the coronation:

The Princess of Wales stunned in a gorgeous floral headpiece

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the coronation with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Princess of Wales wore a gorgeous floral headpiece designed by milliner Jess Collett in collaboration with iconic designer Alexander McQueen. The princess of Wales daughter, Princess Charlotte, wore a matching outfit and donned a matching headpiece, too. Regal and beautiful!

Precious princesses & princes

Brother and sister, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotee shared a sweet moment at the proceedings on Saturday as they walked hand-in-hand into Westminster Abbey for their grandfather’s coronation.

Prince George, the eldest of the three siblings, looked dashing as he went about his duties in key role as the Page of Honour at his grandfather’s coronation.

Katy Perry rocked a beautiful Westwood two piece.

Katy Perry, who also performed at the King’s coronation concert on Sunday, looked positively beguiling on Saturday when she attended the proceedings.

The pop-star wore a stunning lilac Vivienne Westwood matching jacket, skirt, and fascinator. Despite having some trouble finding her seat at the coronation proceedings, Perry was as graceful and gorgeous as ever.

SA’s Pretty Yende gave an enchanting operatic performance

South Africa’s very own operatic angel, Pretty Yende, has the huge honour of performing at the King’s coronation. Yende sported a spectacular bright yellow dress and performed a new piece, Sacred Fire, written by British composer Sarah Class especially for the occasion.

Penny Mordaunt fulfils an ancient role

MP and Leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, played a massive role in the coronation over the weekend, acting as Lord President of the Council. Mordaunt became the first woman to present the Jewelled Sword of Offering to a King.

The King is crowned

King Charles and Queen Camilla were officially crowned as King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and other Commonwealth realms.

When taking the Coronation Oath, the king became the first monarch to pray aloud at his coronation. In his words, Charles prayed to be a blessing to people of every faith and conviction.

Prince William gives King Charles a kiss

King Charles and his son, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, shared a rather sweet moment when William paid respects to his father.

The Prince of Wales pledged loyalty to King Charles III by getting on one knee, before leaning in for a kiss on his dad’s cheek. The King then shared a few words with his eldest.

The King and Queen leave Westminster Abbey after the coronation proceedings in the Gold State Coach led by 9 royal Windsor Grey horses – Icon, Shadow, Milford Haven, Echo, Knightsbridge, Tyrone, Meg and Newark.
