Rachel Kolisi did not need many words to make her point. In a new cooking video shared on TikTok, the author and motivational speaker responds to recent criticism of her kitchen skills by simply picking up a marker and scratching the r out of Mrs on her apron. It now reads Ms Kolisi. She then proceeds, entirely unfazed, to cook butter chicken.
The moment landed exactly as intended. Fans were delighted, with commenters calling her a petty queen and noting they were obsessed with the amendment to the apron. Others simply said they were in stitches.
Setting the cooking record straight
The video was prompted by an earlier clip in which Rachel cooked butter chicken and was criticised online for her use of spices — or lack thereof. She addressed the commentary directly in her new video, with a confidence and lightness that her followers have been watching return in recent months.
Following on some of the comments I saw on how I cannot cook, I do actually cook very regularly, and I cook just fine, she said. Everybody eats my food and actually enjoys it, the majority of the time.
She also noted, with what can only be described as deliberate cheerfulness, that she had spotted some leftover spinach and would be adding it to the dish — the same spinach that had attracted complaints previously. Everybody in my house truly does enjoy it… even with the lack of spices and the spinach you all complained about.
A smile that is coming back
What struck followers watching the video was not just the wit of the apron edit but something quieter underneath it. Several commenters noted that Rachel’s smile seemed to be returning — a small but meaningful observation given the very public year she has been navigating.
Rachel and Siya Kolisi, who announced their split in October 2024 after eight years of marriage, are currently going through a divorce. They share two children, Nicholas, 11, and Keziah, 9. Rachel has been documenting her Falling Forward journey openly, and this latest video felt like a natural extension of that — humour as self-possession, levity as strength.
“Your smile is coming back”, wrote one follower. “I am so happy to see this. You are so strong.”
