Pink is heading to Radio City Music Hall. The Grammy-winning pop star has been announced as the host of the 79th Tony Awards, the annual celebration of the best in Broadway theatre, set to take place in New York City on 7 June 2026. It marks the first time Pink has ever hosted a major awards ceremony.
“It is the honor of an entire lifetime to host a night celebrating the literal hardest working people in showbiz,” she said in a statement. “Broadway has shaped my life and how I put my own shows together — it is a community that is supportive and inclusive and full of talent and love. These people give magic every single day, and I cannot wait to celebrate them with the entire world.”
Why Pink, and why now
The choice is a departure from the usual Tonys formula — previous hosts have typically had direct Broadway credentials, including Cynthia Erivo last year and Ariana DeBose in the three years prior. Pink has never performed on Broadway, a fact she acknowledged with characteristic self-awareness in her announcement.
However, her connection to the theatre world is genuine and recent. She relocated to New York City to support her teenage daughter Willow’s passion for theatre and Broadway, and has become a regular presence at shows since the move. Her own music features in two current Broadway productions — one song in Moulin Rouge! The Musical and another in the long-running & Juliet.
The awards organisers were direct about their reasoning: Pink’s extraordinary fan base, built across nine studio albums, four Billboard number ones and tours that have drawn millions of attendees worldwide, gives the ceremony a reach into audiences who might not otherwise tune in.
Her daughter had the final say
In what may be the most charming detail of the announcement, Pink revealed that she sought permission from her daughter before accepting the hosting gig. Willow’s response was enthusiastic — primarily, it seems, because it came with a ticket.
“When I asked my daughter, she was really excited about being able to have a ticket to go to the Tonys, so I’m hosting the Tonys,” Pink joked. “I’m really, really excited and very nervous because that girl is a tough crowd.”
Nominations for the 2026 awards will be announced on 5 May. The ceremony broadcasts live on CBS and streams on Paramount+ from 8pm EST on 7 June.
