A new chapter in their Netflix partnership
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first signed with the streaming giant in 2020, producing the hit documentary Harry & Meghan and lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. The latter saw the Duchess step into the role of a domestic host, inviting viewers into her idyllic California life, from harvesting honey to mixing bath salts. The series has been renewed for a second season, with a festive holiday special set to air in December.
While their original deal gave Netflix exclusive rights to all of their productions, the new arrangement is a multi-year “first look” deal. This means Netflix will have the option to approve or pass on any new projects before their production company, Archewell Productions, can offer them to other studios. Such agreements typically offer less guaranteed income than exclusivity deals but grant creators greater freedom.
Speaking about the renewed partnership, Meghan said, “We’re proud to extend our work with Netflix and expand our projects to include the As ever brand,” referencing her recently rebranded lifestyle line, which includes products such as rosé wine and artisanal spreads.
From royal life to streaming success
Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, praised the couple as “influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere.”
Harry and Meghan, who married in a widely celebrated royal ceremony in 2018, stepped away from official royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California. Soon after, they signed their first Netflix deal, which was widely reported to be worth a substantial sum, though the exact figure was never confirmed.
Their six-part documentary Harry & Meghan offered an unflinching look at their relationship and decision to leave the royal family, attracting 23 million views in its first four days and setting a record for a Netflix documentary. Despite mixed critical reviews, With Love, Meghan became Netflix’s most-watched cooking show in early 2025, with more than five million views in the first half of the year.
What’s next for Archewell Productions
The upcoming holiday special will feature Meghan welcoming friends and family to celebrate with festive cooking, gift-making, and seasonal decorations. Later this year, Archewell Productions will release a short documentary highlighting the story of a small orphanage in Uganda.
The couple are also developing a romantic film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake, though no release date has been confirmed.
