Justin Trudeau made headlines again this week after being spotted at Katy Perry’s Montreal concert on Wednesday night, just days after the two were seen enjoying a private dinner together. The appearance has sparked renewed curiosity about their relationship, particularly in the wake of both stars’ recent breakups.

Singing along at the Bell Centre
The former Canadian prime minister, now 53, was seen in high spirits at the Bell Centre as Perry performed her chart-topping hit Firework during her Lifetimes Tour. Audience footage shows Trudeau singing along enthusiastically, even shouting the chorus while lights flashed around him. In another video circulating online, he can be seen smiling and gazing up at the stage while Perry performed Dark Horse.
The concert marked Perry’s second Canadian stop this week, with upcoming performances scheduled in Quebec City and Toronto. Her tour, launched in support of her latest album 143, will continue across Latin America, Europe and Asia after its North American leg wraps up.

A quiet dinner in Le Plateau
Just two days before the concert, Trudeau and Perry were seen dining at Le Violon, a fine-dining restaurant in Montreal’s Le Plateau neighbourhood. The upscale venue, recently named Canada’s Best New Restaurant, confirmed the visit and said the pair arrived during regular service hours and were seated like any other guests.
According to the restaurant’s communications consultant, Samantha Jin, there were no overt signs of romance during the two-hour meal. “We kind of got the vibe that they were a little more chill,” she said, adding that no one approached them for photos and there were no public displays of affection. The duo reportedly enjoyed a chef’s tasting menu that included dishes such as steak tartare, tuna, lobster, and lamb, and took time to thank the kitchen staff personally before leaving.
Speculation grows after high-profile breakups
The dinner and concert sightings come at a time when both Trudeau and Perry are newly single. Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire announced their separation in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage and three children. Perry, meanwhile, recently parted ways with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter, Daisy Dove.
While neither Perry nor Trudeau has addressed the rumours directly, fans have taken to social media to speculate whether a new romance is brewing. Those hoping for confirmation were left guessing after Perry’s flirtatious but playful reaction during recent interviews. Meanwhile, Trudeau’s visible enjoyment at the concert has only added to the public intrigue.
Despite growing interest, sources close to both parties suggest the two remain friends — for now. A source told Billboard that while the chemistry between the pair is undeniable, they have simply “enjoyed getting to know each other” and are focusing on their personal lives.
Life after politics and pop stardom
Following his resignation earlier this year, Trudeau has remained largely out of the political spotlight, appearing occasionally at public events. The son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, his personal life has long drawn media attention — a legacy that seems to continue in this new chapter.
As for Perry, the pop icon remains at the height of her career, with seven studio albums and multiple Grammy nominations under her belt. Her influence on early 2000s pop remains unmatched, and her current tour is further solidifying her staying power in the industry.
Whether this is simply a friendship or the start of something more, Trudeau and Perry’s recent appearances together have certainly left fans watching closely.
