Now 21, Jordan honoured the memory of the iconic rugby scrum-half by wearing a Bulls jersey with “Dad, Joost” printed on the back, alongside the number 9, his father’s legendary shirt number for both the Bulls and the Springboks.
His quiet yet powerful tribute took place at Joost’s old stomping ground, Loftus, where the stadium buzzed with excitement for the URC clash. The moment captured hearts both in the stands and online.
‘He’d be so proud’
Jordan’s mother, Amor Vittone, shared the images of her son’s tribute on Facebook, where fans were quick to praise the gesture.
“He would be so proud of you,” read one comment Amor liked.
Another added: “The resemblance is uncanny – it’s like seeing Joost again.”
Joost van der Westhuizen passed away in 2017 after a long and public battle with motor neurone disease. At the time, he and Amor were separated after 15 years of marriage. They shared two children, Jordan and his younger sister Kylie, now 18.
Blazing his own trail
While his father was a rugby icon, Jordan has taken a different route, carving out his own identity in football. A former goalkeeper with the Valencia youth academy, he later moved to the UK to train with the Reading Academy.
He’s now chasing a lifelong dream: to play for Liverpool.
Jordan’s passion for football has been unwavering, and he’s determined to make a name for himself in the sport.
Alongside his athletic pursuits, Jordan has also stepped into the world of fashion, signing with Ice Model Management as a professional model.
Whether on the field or in front of the camera, Jordan van der Westhuizen is proving that while he’s his father’s son, he’s also a star in his own right. And every now and then, he reminds us all that Joost—South African rugby royalty—may be gone, but he is certainly not forgotten.
