There are few television moments that defined a generation quite like Hannah Montana, and on Monday evening in Los Angeles, Miley Cyrus made sure the show got the send-off its legacy deserves. The world premiere of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special brought together the original cast for a reunion that fans have been waiting years to see.
Cyrus arrived in full character spirit — a sparkling metallic dress layered over a Hannah Montana graphic tee, and, naturally, the iconic blonde wig. It was the kind of commitment that reminded everyone exactly why the show worked in the first place.
The band – mostly – back together
Joining Cyrus on the red carpet were several of her original co-stars, including Jason Earles, Shanica Knowles, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Cody Linley and Moisés Arias. The notable absence was Emily Osment, who played Lilly, Cyrus’s best friend on the show. Osment explained via Instagram that filming commitments prevented her from attending, though she made clear that the show’s impact on her life has been immeasurable — she still meets fans who watched it as children and now have children watching it themselves.
Cyrus was joined on the carpet by her fiancé, Maxx Morando, her mother, Tish Cyrus and her sister Brandi Cyrus. Other attendees included Jaden and Willow Smith, Jojo Siwa and podcast host Alex Cooper.
What the special includes
The anniversary special is packed with the kind of content that nostalgia is built from — iconic songs from the original series, never-before-seen archival footage, and appearances from Cyrus’s parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus.
It was filmed in front of a live studio audience and is now available to stream on both Disney+ and Hulu. For a generation that grew up sneaking in just one more episode before bed, it is a welcome excuse to do exactly that again.
