The countdown to Miss South Africa 2026 is entering its final stretch, and this year’s judging panel brings a distinctly leadership-focused mix of voices to the stage.
Former Public Protector and law professor Thuli Madonsela has been named among the judges who will help select the next titleholder when the pageant reaches its finale at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday, 14 November.
Madonsela’s inclusion adds a public-service and constitutional-law perspective to a panel that also includes Miss South Africa 2023 Natasha Vermaak, medical doctor and television personality Dr Musa Mthombeni, and African Women Chartered Accountants president Pumla Molope.
Thuli Madonsela returns to the Miss South Africa stage
This is not Madonsela’s first time helping to choose a Miss South Africa. She was part of the judging line-up in 2022, when Ndavi Nokeri went on to win the crown.
Her return arrives as the organisation continues to place leadership, public purpose and social impact more visibly at the centre of the competition. The 2026 theme, From Imbokodo to Diamond, is built around ideas of strength, resilience and the contribution of South African women.
For the 12 finalists still in the running, the finale will therefore be about more than the traditional pageant moments. The organisation has positioned the title as a platform for advocacy and leadership, with the eventual winner expected to take on a public-facing role well beyond the crowning night.
Who is hosting and performing at Miss South Africa 2026?
Lawrence Maleka and former Miss South Africa Jo-Ann Strauss will guide the main show. Strauss won the title in 2001 and has since built a career across broadcasting, business and public speaking, while Maleka is known for his work as an actor and television presenter.
Kuhle Adams and Katleho Sinivasan have been announced as the red-carpet hosts ahead of the main event.
The latest finale announcements also name the Ndlovu Youth Choir, Young Stunna and the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra among the performers, bringing together choral, amapiano and orchestral sounds for the evening.
A new Sandton home for the Miss South Africa finale
The 2026 crowning moves to the Sandton Convention Centre after recent editions were staged at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. The venue places this year’s production in the heart of Johannesburg’s Sandton precinct.
Tickets are currently being sold through Ticketpro, with the official Miss South Africa site listing options from R450. The red carpet is scheduled to open at 16:00, with doors to the finale arena opening at 19:00. Admission is restricted to guests aged 18 and older.
Reigning Miss South Africa Qhawekazi Mazaleni will crown her successor on the night.
The Mandate follows the road to the crown
The wider 2026 journey has also been documented through The Mandate, a seven-part series that originally followed 19 women through challenges centred on leadership, entrepreneurship, personal growth and public purpose.
That field has since narrowed to 12 finalists for the grand finale. The series is designed to show more of the women behind the competition, placing their ambitions and ideas alongside the glamour traditionally associated with the crown.
