The 2025 Hollywoodbets Durban July delivered its usual spectacle of fashion, flair and flamboyance, but it was the stars of The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) who truly commanded attention on the red carpet. From cultural homages to avant-garde statements, the cast members brought high fashion and personal flair to one of the country’s most iconic social events.

Held at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 5 July, this year’s event was themed Marvels of Mzansi, inviting guests to interpret the beauty and wonder of South Africa through their sartorial choices. The fashion directive encouraged attendees to take inspiration from the country’s natural wonders, landmarks, wildlife and cultural heritage.
Stars of the show, stars of the red carpet
With RHOD season five having recently concluded with a dramatic reunion episode, fans were keen to see who would step out — and what they would wear. While some of the more controversial figures such as Nonku Williams, Londie London and Minnie Ntuli were noticeably absent, others seized the spotlight.
Sorisha Naidoo offered one of the most striking looks of the day. Drawing inspiration from traditional Xhosa royalty, her outfit featured a sculptural straw silhouette paired with intricate beaded detailing. Her look was both rooted in culture and executed with haute couture precision, cementing her status as a fashion frontrunner on and off screen.

Newcomers take their moment
Kwanele “Fafa” Kubheka, a fresh face from the latest season, impressed with a gown inspired by the Baobab tree — a symbol of life and endurance across Africa. Fafa’s choice reflected both the theme’s brief and a deeper understanding of South African heritage, making his look one of the more thoughtful interpretations of the day.

Celebrating the diversity of local fashion
As always, the Durban July served as more than just a horse racing event. It was a canvas for cultural expression, self-presentation and the creative power of South African fashion. The RHOD cast, despite varying public responses, contributed to a visual showcase that reflected the country’s richness — from its indigenous flora and fauna to its vibrant traditional identities.
With each housewife bringing her own vision of what it means to be a “Marvel of Mzansi”, the red carpet became a stage not only for glamour, but for storytelling. And while opinions may differ on who wore it best, there’s no denying that the Real Housewives of Durban made an impact — both stylistically and symbolically.
