Verushka Singh has been crowned Mrs South Africa 2025, stepping into her new role with a clear mission: putting climate change at the centre of her reign. The announcement was made during the Mrs South Africa Grand Finale at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Friday night.

Singh, a chemical engineer and sustainability professional, said she hopes to use her platform to highlight how environmental shifts are deeply intertwined with human well-being. “Climate change is not simply an environmental issue; it’s a human issue,” she told The Citizen. “For many of the most vulnerable communities on our continent, it’s hitting hardest.”
A purpose-led platform
Singh said her focus is shaped by the experiences of women and children, who often bear the brunt of climate-related pressures. “Disasters force them to walk greater distances for water, drop out of school, and carry additional care responsibilities,” she said, adding that she wants to amplify how climate action, gender equality and community resilience connect.
Her broader passions include tackling gender-based violence and empowering young people. She described her message to women as one of possibility. “For married women, for mothers, for every life stage — it’s never too late to embrace your passions and redefine your narrative.”
The mother of two said she also wants to challenge perceptions about motherhood and ambition. “Being a mom doesn’t limit you; it equips you. You can lead with purpose, resilience and love.”
A transformative journey
This year’s pageant, held under the theme The Greatest Show Woman, spotlighted authentic stories and the real-life experiences of its 28 finalists. The group — made up of entrepreneurs, lawyers, mothers and community leaders — completed a 10-month programme designed to build confidence, leadership and personal growth.
Singh said the most challenging part of her journey was moving from her structured corporate life into emotionally vulnerable spaces. “In consulting and engineering, I’m used to data, structure and control. Here, I had to open up, share personal stories and show emotion. It was both humbling and empowering.”
Despite taking the crown, Singh said winning was never her expectation. “My goal was to grow, learn, and connect with incredible women. The win is a phenomenal bonus.”
Representing South Africa on the world stage
Singh will represent South Africa at the 2027 Mrs World pageant, as the current titleholder, Erin-Jane Miller, will compete in 2026. She said the opportunity to carry the South African flag internationally is a privilege she takes seriously. “Our country has a unique story of resilience, diversity and possibility,” she said.
As Mrs South Africa, Singh’s year ahead promises to blend advocacy, leadership and her drive to amplify the voices of those most affected by climate change.
