The 37-year-old singer, best known for hits like Bang Bang and Price Tag, shared the emotional news on Instagram, saying she had been undergoing tests for some time before receiving the diagnosis.
“Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word early,” she wrote.
“I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period.”
‘I’m an open book’
According to IOL, Jessie J—real name Jessica Ellen Cornish—explained her decision to speak publicly about her diagnosis, saying that being open has helped her cope in the past and connect with others who are going through similar challenges.
“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through similar or even worse. That’s the bit that kills me,” she wrote.
“I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me, with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories.”
The diagnosis came shortly before she released her song No Secrets in April, a moment she described as deeply ironic.
“To get diagnosed with this as I’m putting out a song called No Secrets, right before releasing Living My Best Life, which was all pre-planned before I found out about this — I mean, you can’t make it up.”
A short break, not goodbye
Jessie J confirmed she would be taking a brief step back following her performance at Summertime Ball to undergo surgery.
“What a weird way to get a boob job,” she joked.
“I’m going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery — and I’ll come back with massive tits and more music.”
Despite the difficult news, Jessie is maintaining her trademark humour and optimism, promising fans she’ll return stronger and with new music on the horizon.
