A man accused of stalking Jennifer Aniston has been formally charged after crashing his car through the gates of her Bel Air mansion while she was reportedly at home.
The suspect, 48-year-old Jimmy Wayne Carwyle from Mississippi, is facing felony charges of stalking and vandalism, with prosecutors citing an aggravating factor of potential significant bodily harm. He allegedly began harassing the Friends star in March 2023, bombarding her with unsolicited voicemails, emails, and social media messages before the situation escalated into physical trespassing.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Carwyle drove a grey Chrysler PT Cruiser into Aniston’s front gates on Monday afternoon, causing significant damage. A security guard detained him until police arrived and placed him under arrest. No injuries have been reported.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the incident, noting, “Stalking is a crime that can quickly escalate from harassment to dangerous, violent actions.”
Carwyle is expected to appear in court this week. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison.
Aniston has not made a public statement about the incident, though this is not her first experience with stalking. In 2010, she obtained a restraining order against a different man who had been loitering around her property with a sharp object.
A disturbing pattern of celebrity stalking
Aniston joins a growing list of female celebrities who’ve been targeted by stalkers—some with frightening outcomes. In 2023, Drew Barrymore was forced to flee a New York event after an alleged stalker rushed the stage. He was later arrested outside her Long Island home.
Similarly, model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen has dealt with multiple stalkers, including one who allegedly followed her through Los Angeles traffic. And pop star Ariana Grande obtained a restraining order after a man broke into her home armed with a knife and threatened her life.
In an age where celebrity lives are increasingly accessible through social media, stars are more vulnerable than ever to dangerous fixations. The LAPD and District Attorney’s Office have encouraged the public to take stalking seriously, no matter the fame of the target.
A Hollywood icon under threat
Jennifer Aniston remains one of the most recognisable actresses in the world. Best known for her role as Rachel Green on Friends, she has enjoyed a long and successful career in film and television. She currently stars in The Morning Show, where her performance has earned her critical acclaim.
Aside from her acting, Aniston is also a producer and philanthropist, supporting charities like Stand Up to Cancer and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Despite decades in the spotlight, she maintains a relatively private life, making these invasions of her home all the more unsettling.
