After three years together, Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have reportedly gone their separate ways. The pair, who met on the set of the 2024 Wicked film adaptation, are said to have parted amicably, with sources close to the couple telling People magazine that the decision was mutual and has been in effect for some months already.
“It’s amicable, they gave lots of time and careful consideration, and decided to go their separate ways. They are still friends and very supportive of one another. They have been quietly broken up for several months,” a source told the publication.
How the relationship began
Grande and Slater’s relationship sparked considerable public discussion when it became known that both had been in committed partnerships when they met on the Wicked set in 2022. Grande had been married to real estate agent Dalton Gomez, from whom she separated and subsequently divorced. Slater, who played Boq in the film while Grande portrayed Glinda, filed for divorce from his then-wife Lilly Jay around the same time.
The couple went public with their relationship in mid-2023 and, for a period, appeared to be in a solid partnership. Grande has spoken warmly about Slater in interviews, and the two were frequently seen together.
Life on tour
The timing of the reported split comes just days after Grande launched her Eternal Sunshine world tour, which got underway on 6 June. The tour, which supports her seventh studio album, represents one of the most significant solo touring endeavours of her career and is expected to run across multiple continents throughout the year.
Whether the demands of a major tour played any role in the relationship’s end is not known. What is clear is that Grande’s professional calendar for the foreseeable future is fully occupied.
A complicated love history
Grande’s romantic life has rarely been out of the public eye. Before Slater, she was engaged to comedian Pete Davidson, a relationship that ended abruptly in 2018 after a period of high-profile visibility. Her marriage to Dalton Gomez, which was conducted privately in 2021, was for a time seen as a more settled chapter. Her earlier long-term relationships, including those with Mac Miller and Big Sean, were similarly subject to considerable public attention.
There has been no statement from either Grande or Slater on the reported split at the time of publication.
