After three seasons of attempting to revive the Sex and the City magic, And Just Like That… will come to an end. Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed on 1 August that the HBO Max series, which follows the lives of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York in their 50s, will wrap up with its third season.
King made the announcement on Instagram, describing the decision as a natural conclusion to the story. “While I was writing the last episode of season 3, it became clear that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” he wrote. King added that he and star Sarah Jessica Parker chose to delay the news so viewers could enjoy the season without the weight of knowing it was the last.

A final goodbye for devoted fans
The decision to end the show comes as no small shock to fans of the franchise, who have followed the trio’s highs and lows since Sex and the City first aired in 1998. Season 3 was extended from 10 to 12 episodes, with a two-part finale planned to round off the series.
Parker, who returned as Carrie Bradshaw, has yet to comment directly, but her co-star Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, shared her sadness on social media. “I am profoundly sad,” she wrote. “I love our whole beautiful cast and crew – 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.” Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, reposted King’s statement but didn’t add her own.
A season filled with drama and difficult choices
The third season of And Just Like That… has received mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike, with some praising its efforts to modernise the series, while others criticised its pacing and tone. The announcement of the show’s end follows one of its most talked-about episodes, which aired on 31 July and featured a dramatic revelation: Miranda’s son Brady is expecting a child with Mia, played by guest star Ella Stiller.
Brady discovered the pregnancy by chance, and the scene escalated when Mia made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him going forward. In classic Miranda fashion, she took matters into her own hands and confronted Mia at her workplace in an effort to understand the situation.
Carrie and Aidan: destined to part ways again
Meanwhile, Carrie’s storyline reached another emotional milestone. Fans were hopeful when her former love interest Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett) returned in season 2, suggesting a fresh chapter in their long-standing romance. However, their relationship came to a quiet end in episode 9, when Aidan admitted he still struggled to trust Carrie after her past infidelity.
Executive producers Elisa Zuritsky and Julie Rottenberg revealed that they had always planned the breakup, knowing that the characters’ differences were simply too deep to overcome. While the split wasn’t explosive, it was final. “We all knew their problems were systemic enough that they would not survive,” Rottenberg told TVLine.
One last chapter
As And Just Like That… prepares to close the book on Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte’s later-in-life adventures, fans are left with just two episodes before the series says its final goodbye. The last episode airs on 14 August on HBO Max.
While reactions remain mixed, there’s no denying the cultural significance of these characters and the decades of conversation they’ve inspired. Whether viewers adored the reboot or struggled to connect with its new direction, its final season will mark the end of a television era that has spanned generations.
