Do you often feel sluggish and bloated? Does your skin and hair look dull, and is the waistband on your pants a little too tight for comfort? It could be that your system is in desperate need of a detox.

Late nights, stress and processed food plus alcohol can overload the kidneys, liver and digestive tract, leaving them in need of some well-earned rest.

A gentle detox is a good way to achieve this. The focus shouldn’t be about denial – but rather on fresh, cleansing and restorative foods that are easy to digest.

Here’s how to make a detox work and achieve a slimmer waist in a weekend:

Schedule your detox for the weekend or over 2 days when you have no other commitments. This will help you achieve success and relax.

Stock up on fresh, whole foods with minimal packaging. Prepare nourishing vegetable soups beforehand.

Try to drink at least 1,8 litres of water each day to help flush out the kidneys. Ayurvedic-medicine practitioners recommend drinking warm water as it helps speed up the elimination of toxins.

If you find it boring, add:

  • Slices of cucumber with fresh mint
  • Slices of apple with a few slices of fresh ginger
  • Slices of strawberry and a few basil leaves
