She is 30 years old, from Northcliff in Gauteng, and she is carrying South Africa to one of the world’s biggest pageant stages this July. Shannon Benting has been named Miss Supranational South Africa 2026, the woman who will represent this country at Miss Supranational 2026 on 31 July at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheatre in Nowy Sacz, Poland.

The announcement was made by African Beauty International (ABI), the South African organisation that holds the national franchise rights to three of the world’s most prestigious international beauty competitions, including Miss Supranational, Miss World and Miss Universe. Benting was selected from a field of 21 finalists drawn from seven provinces, a group spanning civil engineering, audiology, law, cancer biology, drama therapy and digital marketing. Two further representatives will be selected from the remaining Top 20 for Miss World South Africa 2026 and Miss Universe South Africa 2026.
Who is Shannon Benting?
Benting is a model and content creator who has built her platform around a specific conviction: that talent is universal, but opportunity is not. Her multicultural heritage, with South African Coloured roots on both sides and Chinese ancestry through her grandmother on her father’s side and her great-grandfather on her mother’s side, has made her someone who moves fluidly across communities and celebrates the full complexity of what it means to be South African.
Through her initiative, Beauty in Action, she works to connect underserved youth with mentorship, skills development and community outreach. It is this purposeful, grounded quality that set her apart in a field of exceptional women.
“Representing South Africa at Miss Supranational 2026 is a moment I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” she says. “I am walking onto that stage in Poland not just for myself, but for every young woman in South Africa who has been told that where she comes from is a limitation rather than a launching pad. I want her to see me and believe that it is possible for her too.”

The significance of the platform
Miss Supranational is among the world’s four major international pageants and draws competitors from more than 90 countries. The reigning titleholder, Eduarda Braum of Brazil, will crown her successor on the night.
ABI was founded by Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, a former Miss South Africa 2010 and Miss World Africa 2011 titleholder who brings to the organisation a firsthand understanding of what it takes to compete, and what’s needed to win, on the world stage.
“Shannon stood out not simply for her beauty, though that is undeniable, but for the quiet, unshakeable clarity she has about who she is and what she wants to do with her platform,” Montjane-Tshabalala says. “On an international stage, that quality is rare and immensely powerful. Shannon understands that this title is not about a crown. It is about the doors it opens and the lives that can be changed as a result.”
Three crowns, three stages
South Africa is uniquely positioned this year to make its mark on the global pageant circuit. While Benting competes at Miss Supranational in July, the Miss World South Africa 2026 and Miss Universe South Africa 2026 representatives will be announced from the remaining Top 20. Miss World 2026 is scheduled for 5 September in Vietnam, and Miss Universe 2026, the 75th edition of the pageant, will take place at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
It is a remarkable year for South African representation on the world stage, and Benting is its opening act.
