Real Housewives of Durban star Jojo Robinson has her eye on a BMW i7 — and she is ready to part with her black Range Rover to get it. The reality television personality shared on Instagram that she and her husband, Calven, visited a BMW dealership in Ballito this week as they explore switching to electric vehicles, citing soaring fuel costs as the driving factor.
“All our cars are really heavy on fuel, and obviously, with what’s going on in the world right now, we thought maybe we should trade my Range Rover for an electric car,” she explained. Their second option, should the i7 not work out, is the BMW X5 hybrid.

An unexpected obstacle
The Robinsons were ready to sign on the dotted line — until the dealership conversation revealed a complication they had not anticipated. Their home’s solar setup, it turns out, is already running at capacity and cannot support the additional load required to charge an electric vehicle of that battery size.
A full upgrade would be required first: a switch to a three-phase power system and additional solar inverters to handle the extra demand. The purchase has been put on hold while the couple works through that side of the equation.
A family known for its garage
For those who follow Robinson closely, the temporary setback is unlikely to be the end of the story. The Robinsons are well known for their enthusiasm for high-end vehicles — Calven gifted Jojo a yellow Ferrari 488 for Valentine’s Day earlier this year, while she bought him a luxury golf cart in January. An electric BMW, it is safe to say, is firmly within reach once the solar situation is sorted.
The move also speaks to a broader shift playing out across South Africa, where rising fuel costs are prompting even those with no shortage of options to reconsider what sits in the garage.
