Rachel Kolisi has offered a candid glimpse into her healing journey as she prepares for the release of her upcoming documentary, Falling Forward.
The director and speaker shared a teaser on Instagram this week, reflecting on resilience, personal responsibility and the consequences of prolonged self-sacrifice. The documentary comes nearly a year after she and Springboks captain Siya Kolisi announced their divorce.
‘I’ve sacrificed for too long’
In the clip, Rachel speaks openly about the choices that shape one’s emotional and mental well-being.
“I think we’ve all got the ability to be resilient. Every single day, we all wake up with choices that we are allowed to make, that we are in control of,” she says in the teaser.
“And how we choose to use those really lands us up in a really healthy whole space or a really dangerous unhealthy place.”
She then delivers a deeply personal admission:
“I’ve done unhealthy. I’ve done unhealthy for too long. I have made unhealthy decisions, I have sacrificed myself, my mental health, my emotional health, my physical health. I’ve sacrificed for too long.”
Rachel adds that she is now choosing what she describes as “the longer, harder, healing road,” even though she does not know where it will ultimately lead.
“I’m more excited for that woman at the end of this journey,” she says.

A new chapter after divorce
Rachel and Siya Kolisi announced their split in October 2024 after eight years of marriage. The former couple share two children, Nicholas (11) and Keziah (9).
Since the announcement, Rachel has increasingly focused on her work as a speaker and advocate, as well as the development of her documentary and book projects.
Meanwhile, Siya has been publicly linked to influencer Rachel John, with the pair recently travelling together to Los Angeles and New York.
Reclaiming narrative through storytelling
Falling Forward appears to centre on personal growth, resilience and confronting difficult truths. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the teaser signals a project rooted in vulnerability and self-reflection.
For Rachel, the documentary marks more than a professional milestone. It signals a deliberate shift toward healing — and a willingness to share that journey publicly.
As she puts it, the destination remains uncertain. But the commitment to choosing differently is clear.
