Britney Spears has reportedly sold her music catalogue in what insiders are calling a landmark multi-million dollar agreement.
The 44-year-old pop icon is said to have finalised a deal with music publishing and talent management company Primary Wave in December 2025, transferring rights to the body of work that defined her career and shaped late 1990s and 2000s pop culture.
While the exact figure has not been publicly disclosed, reports have compared the transaction to Justin Bieber’s catalogue sale, which was widely reported to be worth around $200 million.
A catalogue that defined an era
Spears burst onto the global stage in 1999 at just 16 years old with the release of …Baby One More Time. The single became an instant worldwide phenomenon and remains one of the best-selling singles of all time.
She followed it with a string of chart-topping albums and hits, including Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic, Stronger and Womanizer, cementing her status as one of the best-selling female artists in music history.
Over the course of her career, Spears released nine studio albums and won numerous industry awards, becoming one of the defining pop stars of her generation.
From superstardom to conservatorship
Spears’ career was later overshadowed by intense public scrutiny and personal struggles. Following widely publicised incidents in 2007, she was placed under a conservatorship in February 2008, overseen by her father, James Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet.
The conservatorship remained in place for 13 years before officially ending in November 2021, after a high-profile legal battle that sparked the global #FreeBritney movement.
In the years since regaining control of her personal and financial affairs, Spears has largely stepped back from mainstream music releases, instead sharing glimpses of her life with fans via social media.
A growing trend in music
Spears’ reported sale forms part of a broader industry trend that has seen major artists cash in on their catalogues in recent years, as publishing rights become increasingly valuable in the streaming era.
For Spears, the move signals a significant financial milestone — and potentially a new chapter — as one of pop’s most influential figures reshapes her legacy on her own terms.
The singer remains active on Instagram, where she frequently shares dance videos and personal reflections with her millions of followers.
