Kim Kardashian has officially completed California’s Law Office Study Program, marking a major step forward in her unconventional legal journey.
The 44-year-old reality star, entrepreneur, and criminal justice advocate celebrated her achievement with a heartfelt gathering surrounded by close friends and family. Her well-worn legal notes, some of which doubled as unique table décor during the event, made the occasion even more special.
“Finally!” Kim wrote on Instagram, sharing photos of herself in a graduation cap and gown. Her journey to this point has been anything but ordinary.

No classroom, no lectures; just determination
Unlike traditional law students, Kim did not attend university or law school. Instead, she enrolled in California’s rarely used Law Office Study Program, which allows aspiring lawyers to study under the supervision of practising attorneys. Only a handful of US states offer this alternative route to the bar, making her success all the more impressive.
Her decision to pursue law was born from frustration with the US criminal justice system. A video she saw online in 2018, highlighting injustice, sparked a powerful desire to make a difference. That moment led to an ongoing activism, study, and service journey.
“It started with a tweet,” Kim said during her speech. “Then Van [Jones] and I began discussing justice reform… and it just grew from there.”
5,000+ hours of study amid an already full life
Over six years, Kim dedicated approximately 18 hours weekly to her studies, totalling over 5,000 hours of reading and exam prep. All this while raising four children, running her successful SKIMS brand, filming multiple reality series, and working on real-life legal cases.
Kim’s mentor and prominent legal advocate, Jessica Jackson spoke at the ceremony and praised her pupil’s persistence.
“Six years ago, Kim walked into this programme with determination. No lectures, no shortcuts—just pure grit and a love of justice,” she said. “It’s one of the most inspiring journeys I’ve witnessed in the legal world.”
A family affair and a moment of pride
The celebration itself was intimate yet emotional. Khloé Kardashian, Kim’s sister, shared her pride on social media: “This was years in the making. Watching her reach this point is nothing short of inspirational.”
Kim’s late father, Robert Kardashian, famously one of O.J. Simpson’s defence attorneys, strongly influences her decision to pursue law. She will officially follow in his footsteps if she passes the California Bar Exam.
The final hurdle: the California Bar Exam
Kim’s next challenge will be the notoriously tough California Bar Exam, offered in February and July each year. Passing this will allow her to practise law formally—a goal she has worked tirelessly towards.
She has already made significant waves in justice reform, most notably her role in securing clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for a non-violent drug offence.
It’s a powerful reminder that meaningful change can come from unexpected places—and that with passion and persistence, anything is possible.
