As it gets warmer, your make-up routine may need a refresh. Increased humidity and longer days means that heavy foundations and powder-heavy finishes are not suitable. For summer, we need lightweight formulas and textures, fresh skin and products that’ll handle the heat without compromising your look. Here’s how to transition your routine for the season.
1. Lighter coverage instead of heavy foundation
Summer is the time when you don’t need full-coverage foundation. Instead, go for a tinted moisturiser, BB cream or a lightweight skin tint. These products will deliver a natural finish, allowing the skin to breathe. If you do need more coverage, apply concealer only where needed rather than covering the whole face.
2. Prioritise SPF
Sun protection should remain a non-negotiable part of your beauty routine. Before your make-up, apply a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher, and let it settle into the skin. You can also use SPF-infused foundation or a tinted sunscreen, but remember that these don’t replace primary sunscreen application.
3. Use cream-based products
Bronzers, highlighters and cream blushes are excellent summer additions. They’re especially great for achieving that dewy appearance as they blend seamlessly into the skin. Coral, peach, and warm pinks are great for that sun-kissed flush.
4. Choose waterproof formulas
Smudged mascara, eyeliner and brow products often occur because of humidity and heat. Switch to waterproof mascara and long-wearing eyeliner, particularly if you’re often outdoors. To keep everything in place, use a lightweight setting spray.
5. Let your lips have a moment
Instead of heavy matte lipsticks, go for tinted lip balms, sheer colours and glosses. They’re easy to reapply, comfortable and give your make-up a softer finish. Make sure your lip products have additional SPF incorporated in them.
The bottomline
At the end of the day, you don’t necessarily have to buy a completely new make-up collection. Just make a few swaps, focus on make-up that’s fresh and dewy, and you’ll achieve that effortless that looks and feels great.
