Iranian people are committing brave, revolutionary acts of freedom

Citizens of Iran are acting against the strict laws put in place against them by the state, and celebrating life despite the ever-present threat of Iran’s ‘morality police.’ After the murder of Mahsa Amini for not wearing a headscarf earlier this year, Iranian citizens have fought harder than ever before just to have the same freedom as the rest of us.

After the Islamic revolution of 1979, strict bans were put in place in Iran, for many of the basic things in life.

Music and musical instruments were banned, public mingling with members of the opposite sex was banned, singing and dancing, especially by women, was banned. Lipstick and nail polish, banned. Not wearing a headscarf and revealing one’s hair, banned.

Over the years, Iran civilians have come together in acts of civil disobedience, in efforts to force the regime into lessening or lifting these strict enforcements.

These efforts have not gone in vain. Now, acts like listening to music, or wearing makeup is no longer an offence, but many of the other bans still remain in place, like not wearing headscarves, or mingling with the opposite sex in public.

Six weeks in to the protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, Iranian people are pushing back harder than ever before. How? By embracing their freedom.

Iranian people are now banning together by risking their lives to commit brave revolutionary acts, sharing them far and wide for the world to see.

In videos making the rounds on social media, Iranian women and men are seen together holding hands, singing, dancing, kissing and hugging, demonstrating the unity between Iranian civilians as they fight against the strict regime.

By tearing apart these gender adversities and embracing one another, people of Iran risk it all by brave acts of revolution, in the name of freedom.
