Save up your bitcoins, Pick n Pay now accepts crypto payments all over SA

Pick n Pay is adventuring into new realms, and bitcoin enthusiasts have never been more thrilled to buy groceries.

Beyond launching flagship premium grocery stores, Pick n Pay has also announced the extension of its bitcoin payment option to multiple stores across South Africa.

Earlier this week the grocery retailer shared that its pilot bitcoin run (launched in 2017) had proved to be successful, signalling the payment option expansion to venture outside the Western Cape and into the rest of the country.

The initial tango with bitcoin saw 10 stores rally for the pilot period. Now 39 will be bitcoin-friendly.

Paying via bitcoin

To pay via bitcoin, all you have to do is use a Bitcoin Lightning-enabled app, like BlueWallet or Muun, shares Pick n Pay.

“The transaction is as easy and secure as swiping a debit or credit card. Customers scan a QR code from the app and accept the Rand conversion rate on their smartphone at the time of the transaction. The service fee for each transaction is minimal, costing the customer on average 70 cents, and takes less than 30 seconds.”
