The viral ‘sleepy girl mocktail’ was first uploaded to TikTok by user Gracie Norton, who said that after struggling to sleep during the luteal phase of her menstrual cycle, she whipped up a sleepy girl mocktail, claiming that it had worked wonders to help her doze off.
@gracie_norton the only time i struggle with sleep is right at the end of my luteal phase! This is working WONDERS!! 💛 (not something im planning on drinking every single night, just near the end of my luteal phase! #healthyhabits #mocktails #bettersleep #sleep ♬ The Lazy Song – Galuh
The mocktail contains two important ingredients that may contribute towards a good night’s sleep – magnesium (in powdered form) and tart cherry syrup.
Magnesium can aid sleep by promoting muscle relaxation, regulating GABA neurotransmitters, supporting melatonin production, and reducing stress. It plays a crucial role in balancing the central nervous system, which helps you to stay calm.
Whereas cherries, particularly tart cherries, contain natural sources of melatonin – a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Hence, consuming cherries or cherry juice may contribute to improved sleep quality and duration. Melatonin-rich foods like cherries may help regulate circadian rhythms and promote relaxation, too.
