Last Thursday, I was treated to a wonderful experience at the Tasting Room in Waterkloof Pretoria. The vibey evening was filled with delicious food and good wine from the heart of the Cape vineyards.
The restaurant
What makes this restaurant stand out, however, is that each month, it serves wines from a specific farm, allowing you to experience a Cape vineyard wine tasting in Gauteng.
The Tasting Room shone a spotlight on Backsberg wines in November and paired four of their best wines with unique foods that bring out the flavours perfectly. As someone who doesn’t know a thing about wines, it was quite the experience!

But, as this restaurant is all about the experience, the décor, from the prominent lollipop sign to the large, frosted glass panel, and even the coasters, changes monthly to advertise the featured wine farm. The small details reinforce the idea that you’re not in Pretoria, but rather the glorious Cape vineyards.

The food
The food, for lack of a better word, was mouth-watering. And paired with the right wines, makes for a delicious culinary experience. Each dish is carefully curated to pair perfectly with the wines, so you don’t miss out on anything!

While I was there for an exclusive wine tasting, I couldn’t resist a taste of their coffee. Rich, delicious, and the perfect way to end my evening.

As you can imagine, the Tasting Room offers a host of experiences. You can opt to have a classy wine tasting, a smoky whiskey tasting, or a coffee tasting experience.

It’s the perfect spot for a unique dinner date, girls’ night out, or year-end function!
You can also purchase the wines, whiskeys, brandies, and coffee on offer! And don’t fret, they’re less than retail – which is fabulous! I walked away with a box of Father Coffee and that’s what has kept me going through this year-end rush.
