A freak accident due to theft and negligence has been announced as a surprising cause of deaths.
Open manhole covers claimed the lives of 104 people over the past year.
This is according to Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashabe, who tweeted about the surprising statistic at an event where he joined the Johannesburg Roads Agency in a campaign to cover up the holes.

And it’s not just the holes that can be hazard.
According to unusualdeaths.com, a Boston woman was killed when a manhole cover became dislodged and crashed through the windshield of her car!
