If the thought of switching off your electronic devices and leaving the city bustle behind makes you feel more nervous than excited, don’t fret. City-style trips – whether for business or leisure – are what a lot of people look for today. And if there’s one city in South Africa that offers exactly that, it’s Cape Town.
Whether you’re a Joburg-based businesswoman frequently travelling to the Mother City for work, or a curious traveller looking to experience apartment-style hotel living, The Onyx Apartment Hotel in the heart of Cape Town is for you. Not only does this apartment hotel offer you the best in city-style living, but their in-house restaurant, YU, is something that needs to be on every foodie’s bucket list…
Staying at The Onyx
Clean, modern and sophisticated finishes welcome you once you arrive in your apartment at The Onyx. The feeling of ultimate city-style luxury is prevalent throughout every hotel apartment and once you step out onto the small balcony, you can’t help but to feel proud that a magnificent city such as Cape Town forms part of South Africa. It’s as vibey and energetic as New York City!
All the apartments include kitchen facilities, there is a concierge service, laundry and dry-cleaning services, WiFi throughout the hotel, a swimming pool with city views, a spa, a gym and much more. For more information on the services offered, visit the website here.
The Onyx is directly located opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre and since you’re in the heart of the city, your options of exploring Cape Town are endless. From the Waterfront to Table Mountain and the Zeitz MOCAA, you can enjoy some of the biggest tourist attractions Cape Town has to offer.
Dining at YU
If you’re a foodie and enjoy Asian-inspired meals, a visit to YU Restaurant at The Onyx is a must.
The name itself tells you what to expect once you sit down to eat. “YU” stems from the Japanese language and refers to excellence and leisure. One look at the restaurant and its menu, and you know you’re in for an excellent, leisurely treat.
The restaurant has also been nominated in the World Luxury Restaurant Awards for 2020.
Some of YU’s highlights (and our own favourites) include the beef short rib bao buns, sweet and salty edamame, chicken wings marinated in Siracha, honey and soya, prawn and butternut dim sum and the most delicious avo, lime, coconut and coriander crispy rice.
If you can’t imagine ending a meal without dessert, try the chocolate fondant with green tea chocolate, crumble and pistachio ice cream…
Décor & ambience
Beautiful Japanese-style décor gives YU a luxurious feel. The darker décor is charming, making you feel instantly relaxed. On a busy night (which seems to happen a lot since YU is becoming more and more popular), the atmosphere is lively with groups of people wining and dining whilst enjoying the buzz of the city.
The X factor
Their excellent signature sushi, that crispy rice and an impressive wine list might just be the reason you would want to go back the following night.
