Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s mother, a model and entrepreneur in her own right, is fast becoming the “it-girl” of the fashion world.
Maye Musk has just been named as the new face of international beauty brand CoverGirl cosmetics – at the age of 69!
Here she is with her 3 kids on Mother’s Day:
May wrote this message on Instagram after the announcement was made:
“I’m so excited to say that I’m now officially a COVERGIRL! My three kids, ten grandchildren and I have had the hardest time trying to keep it a secret until today’s big announcement. Who knew, after many years of admiring the gorgeous COVERGIRL models, that I would be one at 69 years of age? It just shows, never give up. Thank you COVERGIRL, for including me in your tribe of diversity. Beauty truly is for women of all ages, and I can’t wait to take you all along this amazing journey with me! Follow @covergirl for more updates. #JustGettingStarted #COVERGIRLMADE.” [sic]
Maye moved to Pretoria from Canada when she was 2 years old. According to an interview with Vanity Fair her modelling career started right here in SA – Maye was a finalist in the 1969 Miss South Africa pageant.
Internationally, she’s graced the catwalk of New York Fashion Week as well as appeared in various magazines. She also had a role in Beyonce’s music video for her song “Haunted”.
According to her Instagram bio she’s been a model for over 5 decades but it’s clear her real passion is healthy eating. Maye is a qualified dietitian and nutritionist.
Watch this fascinating video of her discussing her career, her son Elon, and how she became a respected name in the world of dietetics. We love that she’s still kept her South African accent:
We can’t wait to see what the beauty has in store for us with her new CoverGirl partnership!
