Alper Yesiltas, a lawyer and photographer who lives in Istanbul has been “imagining scenes and capturing” memories for almost two decades.
And, his latest collection might be one of the most heart-tugging (and technologically advanced) to date.
In his first collection that’s AI-based (Artificial Intelligence), he created a project dubbed ‘As If Nothing Happened’:
According to the artist, “Behind this project lies the question of ‘how would people look photo-realistically if some great events have not happened to them.”
The project includes a spectrum of great faces reimagined. You’ll see Princess Diana, Michael Jackson and John Lennon, to name a few, but not in the way you’ve come to recognise them.
In their golden years or without surgery, Yesiltas’s work is thought-provoking for multiple reasons. Is it because we wish that many were still alive, or that they hadn’t made the decisions they made? Maybe we wish that decisions hadn’t been made for them – that the fame hadn’t eaten them in the way that it did. Or maybe, some of us are just fascinated in imagining a world with them in it today.
