There’s one behind-the-scenes beauty trend that doesn’t make it onto the red carpet
However, it gives an award-worthy glow. Introducing the celeb beauty hero… sheet masks.
Stars from Drew Barrymore to Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone, all took to Instagram to share hilarious snaps of themselves wearing sheet masks.
In the past year, these sachets of skincare-soaked material have gone from niche Korean import to A-List essential, and it’s easy to see why. They’re neatly portable, fun to use and the physical ‘sheet’ delivery ensures every drop of product is pushed into your skin so the results are instantly gratifying.
Our Beauty Ed has rounded up her top five sheet masks to try (three of them are under R100!), but first, have a look at our Instagram “shelfie” (sheet mask selfie) collection…
Celeb beauty trend: sheet masks
From Emma Stone sporting giant jellified lip stickers, Jessica Chastain staring out of an eerie white mask or Drew Barrymore with a frilly paper beard, here are some of the Instagram selfies that prove sheet masks are indeed “A Thing”.
In addition to winning Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in La La Land and dazzling in a sparkly Valentino gown (a far cry from her lip mask selfie below), Emma’s skin looked radiant.
Drew Barrymore stunned on her return to celebville ahead of the premiere of her new Netflix series, Santa Clarita Diet. After sharing this scary pic on Instagram, the 41-year-old actress didn’t look as day over 30 when she stepped out onto the red carpet. We also loved her hair in loose waves and her classic smoky eye (watch our easy smoky eye video tutorial here).
56-year-old Seinfeld and Veep actress, Julia Louis-Dreyfus took to Instagram with this sneak peak of what really happens behind the scenes at the Golden Globes. But when she stepped out at the awards, she was the epitome of classic chic in a monochrome gown with a youthful glow about her that made us wonder if she’s ageing in reverse from her Seinfeld days.
With her hair swept back into a tight up-do, Jessica’s porcelain skin was the centre of attention – hence the horror-film-worthy mask below. Out on the red carpet, the 39-year-old Zero Dark Thirty star accentuated her natural glow with light, feminine makeup. Worth the weird mask we think!
