Ever wondered what someone in the beauty industry keeps in their handbag when they’re on the go? Well, wonder no more. These sleek and chic beauties are the ones our Beauty Editor, Martinique Stevens always keep in her bag for emergency glamour touch-ups.
Oil Blotting Papers
Palladio Rice Paper Oil-absorbing Blotting Tissues with Rice Paper, R30 for 40 sheets. It’s a universal truth that the more fun you’re having, the shinier your face becomes, so this skinny pack punches well above its weight in clutch bag value. The absorbent tissues soak up unwanted oil without disturbing your make-up, which means you won’t need to load on more.
There are always at least two types of eye drops in my handbag. Working behind a screen all day can make the eyes look red and stressed, not to mention the drying effects of air conditioning. So I use Systane Balance Lubricant Eye Drops, R136,95 for 10ml, with their milky-coloured, lipid stabilising formula when I want to quickly elevate signs of redness, and Bausch & Lomb Artelac Advanced Lipids Eye Drops, R120 for 30 x 0,5ml tubes, when the air conditioner has made my eyes feel irritated and dehydrated.
Hand Sanitising Cream
Hand sanitisers are an obvious go-to for keeping germs at bay, but oftentimes the alcohol content in them can leave hands feeling uncomfortably dry. The Body Shop Absinthe Purifying Hand Cream, R70 for 100ml not only moisturises but helps keep hands feeling cleaner too.
We live in a time where our to-do lists are longer than the hours we have in a day, so I almost always find myself rushing out the door sans mascara. That’s why I make sure to keep a mini or travel size mascara in tow. Sorbet Wanderlust Mini Volume Mascara, R99,99, is great for adding much-needed length.
This is by no means a new product, but it surely is a staple in many a beauty lover’s make-up kit. I use a drop of Nuxe Huile Prodiguese Multi-Purpose Dry Oil, R330 for 50ml, to tame flyaways and nourish frazzled ends, then rub the residue into thirsty cuticles, too.
Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Fig, R99, provides hydration, a little bit of plumping action and a lovely wash of colour to lips. It helps me look just that much more put together when I walk out the door.
Eye Brow Tint
Brows play a vital roll in framing one’s face, so I brush Catrice Brow Colorist Semi-permanent Brow Mascara, R81, onto my brows to give them more shape and natural-looking colour that lasts all day.
Top Party Tip: New shoes? Rub a little lip balm on the inside of the heels to prevent rubbing and blisters.
A scent obsessed beauty editor with a flair for fashion and an affinity for anything kawaii. When she’s not researching skincare ingredient lists for the latest low-down on what this or that compound or chemical does on the skin, you can expect to find her off-loading stress at the gym, enjoying a salsa dancing social or hunting for the latest fragrance.
