The United Rugby Championship (URC) has opened global applications for the 2026 Women’s Leadership Academy, a skills-building programme designed to remove barriers young women face when entering the sports industry. Applications opened on 14 November 2025 and close on 30 November 2025.
What the academy offers
Now in its fourth year and supported by CVC, the academy will select 50 women aged 18 to 26 from around the world. Over several months, participants join online workshops and structured mentoring that build leadership, confidence and practical career skills relevant to elite performance, broadcasting, event management and sports governance. Graduates become part of a growing network that connects emerging talent with senior decision-makers across sport and media.
Why it matters
The initiative responds to persistent obstacles that young women report when trying to break into sport. The programme focuses on access, visibility and job-readiness, pairing real-world briefs with guidance from experienced professionals. Several past graduates have already moved into roles within the URC’s content teams, a sign that the pathway can translate into paid opportunities.
Speakers and mentors
This edition brings together high-profile leaders from international federations, professional teams, broadcasters and production houses. Sessions cover career planning, creative thinking, leadership under pressure and the realities of working behind the scenes on global events. The emphasis is on lived experience, practical insight and opening doors for the next wave of women entering the industry.
Prizes and progression
Participants are eligible for a Most Valuable Participant award. The MVP will gain exclusive work experience at the URC Grand Final in 2026 as well as an internship within the international sports ecosystem. All graduates receive ongoing alumni support and connections that extend beyond the programme window.
How to apply
Eligible applicants aged 18 to 26 must submit a short video biography explaining why they want to join the academy. Entries are accepted via wla.unitedrugby.com until 30 November 2025. Successful candidates will be notified after the selection process concludes.
